Russian Federation can keep on partying after fine World Cup run

Croatians players celebrate after the penalties during the round of 16 match between Croatia and Denmark at the 2018 soccer World Cup in the Nizhny No

FIFA has fined the Croatian soccer federation over $70,000 for violating media and marketing rules at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

They handed them possession and despite playing four times fewer passes than Spain's 1,137 over 120 minutes, they successfully shut them out of their box.

It is the first time that Croatia have reached this stage of the World Cup since the golden generation of Davor Suker and Zvonimir Boban managed the feat in 1998.

Host country Russian Federation was knocked out of the World Cup on Saturday after a dramatic match that went to penalty kicks, and Croatia fans weren't the only ones who were exuberant.

Having slotted home the winning kick against Denmark in the last 16, Rakitic held his nerve to convert from the spot, with Mario Fernandes going from hero to villain by missing from 12 yards after his 115th-minute header had made it 2-2 deep into extra time. "But I think we have such incredible players, very experienced and we showed it in the penalties that we have the players who are playing in the best teams in the world".

"The president invited the head coach and team members to an event to sum up the results of the championship and discuss Russia's World Cup heritage", the Kremlin spokesman said.

Denis Cheryshev scored a brilliant opener in the first half but just eight minutes later former Leicester City striker Andrej Kramarić headed the Croatians level.

United States jobs growth stronger than expected
But with a record 6.7 million unfilled jobs in April, economists are confident that wage growth will accelerate later this year. The unemployment rate edged up to 4 percent , but this was due to a reported surge of 601,000 people entering the labor force.

"[The president] watched. He was rooting for the team. I hope we will take one more step towards the World Cup final".

"We said we can only prove our worth by working hard - I believe not only did people start to trust us, but the entire country of Russian Federation is in love with us, they know what the national team is worth".

Croatia had also needed spot-kicks to get past a dogged Denmark in the last 16, but Modric insisted they would not be exhausted for the last-four clash against England at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.

Iniesta replaced David Silva after 67 minutes of the game, which ended in a penalty shoot-out victory for the hosts after a 1-1 extra-time draw.

"You saw who took the penalties". It's the first time we're in the quarter finals in a very long time.

"Vladimir Putin talked to me during the day and he called me right now, and congratulated me on a very good game", Cherchesov said.
