National City is getting a new groundbreaking superhero!

Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) is the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team.

While Maines is relatively new to acting, she first entered the public spotlight as a teenager in 2013 when the Maine Supreme Court ruled that it was unlawful for her high school to deny her access to the girls' bathroom. "A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia's journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer". We'll have to wait and see how much of Dream Girl's comic character (if any) will become Nia Nal.

"I haven't really wrapped my head around it", Maines told TV exec editor Debra Birnbaum at Variety's Comic-Con Studio. "What we see on television has a very dramatic effect on our society", she said, and that makes representation more important now than it has been in the past. And so it seems only fitting that we have a trans superhero for trans kids to look up to. "I wish there was a trans superhero when I was little". April Parker Jones (Jericho, The Last Ship) has been cast as series regular Colonel Haley, a hardline career military woman who lives and dies by the orders of her commanding officers.

According to TMZ , the 22-year-old was working on a music video in Brooklyn Sunday (July 22) and at 4AM wrapped and drove home. Three hooded gunmen then jumped out of the vehicle , before grabbing him and pistol-whipping until he lost consciousness.

Manchester Black, played by David Ajala, is described as having "a dark past" that leads him to deflect "the brutality of his mission with his charm and sense of humor". (If you want to learn more about Manchester Black, check out Patrick Gleason and Peter J. Tomasi's Superman: Black Dawn, which saw Manchester Black terrorize the Superman, Lois Lane, and their son Jon).

Previously, it had been revealed that Supergirl was adding to its series-regular cast Jesse Rath as the Legion of Super Heroes' Brianiac-5 and Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty.

Just how Nia will factor in with the chaos and mayhem threatening to destroy the Earth (yet again) remains to be seen, but it's safe to say that when Supergirl returns on October 14, she'll be out there kicking alien ass and taking names with the best of them.
