Todd Howard doesn't really want to remaster Bethesda games

Fallout New Vegas Fans Shouldn’t Expect a Sequel Soon

VP of Bethesda Pete Hines and Director Todd Howard recently sat down with The Guardian to talk about the future of their famed franchises. As explained in NoClip's documentary about the making of Fallout 76; the developers at Battlecry were much more experienced at developing multiplayer games. "I wouldn't say never, but now that our company is so big, it's always better to keep stuff internal ... it becomes less likely, but I could never say never". Similarly, Fallout Shelter was developed mainly by Behaviour Digital, and that game has proved hugely successful for Bethesda too. He does praise New Vegas, however, stating that he "thought the Obsidian guys did a fabulous job".

With Bethesda's titanic scale and developmental depth, the studio is unlikely to outsource any work for major projects. New Vegas was originally released back in 2010; just one year prior to the release of Skyrim.

"I'd rather you play Morrowind the way it was ..." Howard added, "I think streaming technology is definitely coming, and it's gonna make people's access to games infinitely easier".

Fallout Please Stand By

As for whether or not any of the old Fallout games - or older Bethesda games - will ever be remastered, Howard stated that "For something like Morrowind, my personal preference is not to remaster it. I think that's how it should be", said Howard.

More than that, however, it doesn't appear Bethesda is interested in working with outside developers. For one, you get to literally drop nukes on other players' heads. "I actually prefer that over remasters". "You've seen it happen to music and movies and I think it's a great thing", Howard predicted. That's what I want our games to do: "to transport people for the time they're in it".
