Trump on Sunday reacted to the DOJ release by saying on Twitter that the documents showed his campaign was "being illegally spied upon".

Reacting to the document's contents, Page - who was not charged for his so-called spying activities - told Ross he is "H$3 aving trouble finding any small bit of this document that rises above completely ignorance and/or insanity".

The application identified Page by name and said he had been the target of Russian government recruitment.

Democrats, however, say the FISA warrant on Page was justified because of his contacts with Russian Federation, and they argue that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department followed proper procedure in seeking and getting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to approve the warrant.

In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper Sunday, Page disputed certain assertions found in the application, echoing his past denials of being a Russian agent.

They said: "The FBI believes that the Russian government's efforts are being coordinated with Page and perhaps other individuals associated with [Trump's campaign]".

Material in a FISA warrant is considered highly classified, and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court proceedings are also conducted in secret.

President Donald Trump claimed Sunday that newly released documents relating to the wiretapping of his onetime campaign adviser Carter Page "confirm with little doubt" that intelligence agencies misled the courts that approved the warrant.

The application also alleges that Mr. Page "has established relationships with Russian government officials, including Russian intelligence officers".

Aligning with President Donald Trump, Republicans alleged in a memo drafted by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) that the FBI's surveillance of Page amounted to an abuse of power-an abuse Republicans don't typically care about when the privacy rights of ordinary Americans are at risk.

One of Donald Trump's ex-foreign policy aides says allegations that he worked with the Russian government during the 2016 USA election are a "complete joke". Yes, the Dirty Dossier, paid for by Democrats as a hit piece against Trump, and looking for information that could discredit Candidate #1 Trump.

The surveillance of Page became a contentious matter between Republican and Democratic lawmakers earlier this year. "The Rigged Witch Hunt, headed by the 13 Angry Democrats (and now 4 more have been added, one who worked directly for Obama W.H.), seems intent on damaging the Republican Party's chances in the November Election" President Trump tweeted. "If anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action", Rosenstein said in a statament.
