The U.S. service members who were wounded are being treated and are in stable condition, according to a statement, which also said the incident in southern Afghanistan is being investigated.

The NATO-led mission in Afghanistan says one USA service member was killed and two others wounded in an "apparent insider attack" in southern Afghanistan.

The incident marks the first combat fatality for the USA military in Afghanistan since April 30, and the second there this year.

The Resolute Support Mission in another statement had said the Afghan Air Force (AAF) will graduate its newest group of 24 pilots of fixed wing aircraft, including two female pilots, at a graduation ceremony at the Lom Praha Flight Training Center (CLV) in Pardubice, Czech Republic, June 27. "The incident is under investigation".

To date, 49 US troops have died in Afghanistan since January 1 2015, when operations in the country formally transitioned from combat operations to a mission of support and advisory assistance to the Afghan National Security Forces, who continue to fend off Taliban insurgents on the ground.

However, the statement said it was "an apparent insider attack".

The last insider attack occurred in August of 2017.

There are about 14,000 USA military personnel in Afghanistan, a lot of them serving as trainers and advisers with the Afghan military in their fight against the Taliban and ISIS.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Mihail Golin, 34, was killed in a firefight with ISIS fighters in eastern Afghanistan on January 1.
