With Pruitt’s Departure, More Than A Quarter of Trump’s Cabinet Has Changed

President Donald Trump announced today (July 5) that Scott Pruitt, the former Oklahoma Attorney General he handpicked to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has resigned from his post.

"Directly following the 2016 election, I voluntarily stopped any advocacy activity with EPA under the anticipation that I might be considered for a position at the Agency", Wheeler added.

As outrage over the spending habits of Donald Trump's administrative members continues, Nancy Pelosi welcomed Pruitt's resignation and called for further action. Many of the EPA regulations Pruitt scraped or delayed had not yet taken effect, and the tens of thousands of lost coal mining jobs the president pledged to bring back never materialized.

Travel records showed the United States government spent $17,000 in taxpayer money on a December trip to Morocco to promote U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas, which is not part of the EPA's jurisdiction.

The departure marked a precipitous fall for Pruitt, who during his roughly 16 months in office took steps to reverse more than a dozen major Obama-era regulations and overhauled key elements of the agency's approach to scientific research.

"Wheeler is much smarter and will try to keep his efforts under the radar in implementing Trump's destructive agenda", Jeremy Symons, vice president for political affairs at the Environmental Defense Fund told Politico in May of this year.

Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the Democratic Coalition: "Someone needs to make sure Scott Pruitt doesn't smuggle his $43,000 soundproof phone booth out of the EPA offices".

Pruitt's transgressions, in the eyes of many, were overwhelming: His flew first-class and asked aides about securing a military jet, secured a sweetheart apartment rental deal from a lobbyist, and sought government officials to give his wife a job, among other allegations. "Still a very long way to go to fully drain the swamp", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) tweeted at Trump.

Dog in hot vehicle : As crowd gathered, owner kept ‘shopping’
The dog died after spending about eight hours locked in a vehicle in the Trussville Walmart parking lot, the website reported. Authorities say the animal was in the vehicle for as long as seven hours on July 4, when temperatures soared into the 90s.

On Friday, his final day in office, Pruitt was back at the EPA building in downtown Washington to say goodbye to aides.

The rollback was immediately condemned by environmental groups, which have appealed to the White House to block the EPA from creating the loophole.

The Adirondack Council, an environmental advocacy group based in Elizabethtown, has been outspoken in its criticism of Pruitt and also celebrated his resignation.

Barrasso will manage the confirmation hearing for Pruitt's successor, as long as Trump nominates a replacement before the end of the year. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican who's a major climate change skeptic and who told CNN previous year the EPA is "brainwashing our kids".

"Scott Pruitt had a good job here, very loved and very respected and he wanted to help our country", said Pam Pollard, Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

Americans deserve an EPA administrator who they know, without a shadow of a doubt, has their best interests in mind.

President Trump tweeted Thursday that he has accepted Pruitt's resignation and praised the former administrator for his "outstanding" work at the agency.
