Top-ranked Simona Halep has been knocked out by Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan at Wimbledon, losing 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round.

On the women's side, Serena Williams won in straight sets and she is now the only woman left in the draw who has won the trophy at the All England Club, after her older sister, five-time champion Venus, lost to Kiki Bertens 6-2, 6-7 (5), 8-6, joining defending champion Garbine Muguruza, two-time victor Petra Kvitova and 2004 champ Maria Sharapova as Week 1 departures.

The result leaves Czech Karolina Pliskova, the seventh seed, as the only women's top-10 player still in the tournament.

"It's my first win against a world number one", said 26-year-old Hsieh.

Hiseh recovered from a 5-3 deficit and a match point in the 10th game to regain parity before she consolidated a break of serve with a tense hold to book a fourth-round meeting with Dominika Cibulkova, who defeated 15th seed Elise Mertens 6-2 6-2.

And Van Uytvanck, 24, reached the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career by beating 28th seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-2 6-3.

The unorthodox Hsieh fought back from 5-2 behind in the decider to complete the unlikely turnaround, digging deep at 0-30 when serving for a place in the last 16 with some stunning defensive play.
