How the Mavericks lost Yogi Ferrell to the Kings and what happens next

Dirk Nowitzki is coming back for a 21st season with the Dallas Mavericks, as expected.

Ferrell returns to the Mavericks after being a restricted free agent on a $5.3 million deal over the next two years.

Free agent guard Yogi Ferrell will sign with the Sacramento Kings for two years and $6.2 million, according to a Yahoo Sports report on Friday, hours after he spurned a reported deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

He has averaged 10.6 points and 3.0 assists in 118 games for the Mavs, including 50 starts.

Ferrell will reenter free agency.

British Airways flight makes emergency landing at Gatwick due to technical problem
A Heathrow Airport spokesperson said the alarm "impacted operation of the airfield for a short while". Fire crews are surrounding the plane on the runway and many incoming flights to Gatwick were diverted.

Ferrell joined Dallas as a D-League call-up during the 2016-17 season.

Ferrell immediately becomes the Kings' most experienced point guard and figures to challenge Frank Mason III for playing time behind De'Aaron Fox. As the roster stands right now, there are only four Kings players with more than three years of National Basketball Association experience: Zach Randolph (17 years), Kosta Koufos (10 years), Iman Shumpert (seven years) and Ben McLemore (five years).

At 31,187 points, he is now the sixth all-time leading scorer in National Basketball Association history, behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.

Nevertheless, he remains an integral piece in a rebuilding squad that posted a dismal 24-58 record last season. Brunson won two NCAA titles at Villanova.
