Winning the box office crown with $25 million may not be a record breaker, but Warner Bros.'s Crazy Rich Asians has quietly just made a loud statement.

That's not an insignificant feat: according to the Los Angeles Times, 2018 could be the first time in over 20 years that no summer comedy grosses more than $100 million at the domestic box office.

For the sake of comedies in 2018, Crazy Rich Asians can't get rich enough.

Starring veteran actress Michelle Yeoh, British-Malaysian former BBC host Henry Golding and American sitcom star Constance Wu, the film tells the story of an American economics professor who meets her super-wealthy boyfriend's family in Singapore.

'Streets Of Rage 4' Trailer Released
Platforms are now unconfirmed, but given that Wonder Boy appeared on the Switch, the chances of a Nintendo version are good. Stay tuned for more on Streets of Rage 4 , including (fingers crossed) a confirmation for consoles.

Powered by jubilant reviews and pent-up demand for a major Hollywood film led by Asian stars, it took in a strong sh4 billion ($39 million) at North American theatres and landed easily at number 1 in its first week. It's an incredible feat as it made almost the same amount that it did in its debut weekend, dropping only about 6 percent for what many are calling an unprecedented weekend hold for a summer romantic comedy.

Shark attack thriller "The Meg" clung on to the runner-up spot for another week, taking $12.8 million - a significant tumble from last week's earnings of $21.2 million.

In at 3rd was newly-released mystery "The Happytime Murders", which took $9.5 million.

Rounding out the top five are Mission: Impossible - Fallout and Disney's Christopher Robin, which earned $8.0 million and $6.3 million, respectively.
