Stokes has missed six Tests - including the Lord's match last week, which clashed with his court case - and 11 limited-overs fixtures for England, as a result of the night out in Bristol. Stokes' teammate Alex Hales was also involved in the incident which took placed outside a nightclub.Due to the court proceedings, Stokes had to miss the second Test which England won by an innings and 159 runs and took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Marks draws comparison between Stokes and a superstar all-rounder of another era and one he played with in the great Somerset side of the 1970's and 80's, Ian Botham.

Bayliss revealed that Stokes, who was recalled to the Test squad just hours after his acquittal for affray, had apologised to his England team-mates when he joined up with them for the New Zealand tour earlier this year.

In the meantime, it seems highly likely Stokes will be playing again this weekend, although Bayliss stopped well short of confirming that.

"I totally agree with Ben being added to the squad for the third Test on Saturday as long as he feels ready to, which no doubt he does". "We'll find out over the next couple of days, I haven't actually spoken to him yet".

"There is no need to keep clobbering him with suspensions", Vaughan said. Speaking in an interview to BBC, the former batsman said, "He has brought the game into disrepute".

Last year's starter Marcus Bettinelli saw himself third-string in the season-opener, left out of the squad completely. With Spurs spending nary a penny this summer, one thing in their favor is cohesion.

"It is an example to the guys on edge of the team that when you get your chance, make it as hard as possible to leave you out", captain Joe Root said after the victory.

England coach Trevor Bayliss has called on Ben Stokes to make a public apology following his involvement in the brawl in Bristol last September.

"Some people would argue that Ben Stokes has had it tough, and has served his time in missing the Ashes, but I see it differently", he told The Daily Mail.

"They feel invulnerable, capable of dominating any situation".

Marks suggests Stokes take former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting as a role model in moving forward. "He was not required to go to court but he acknowledged a problem with alcohol and his off-field behaviour, and with appropriate help he resolved it before going on to have the most brilliant of careers". The cricketing fans around Ben will cheer him and love him.
