The woman, clad in only a T-shirt, ran away before the homeowner could answer the door.

The mystery woman in a doorbell video circulating online has been identified.

The video was released by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office on August 26 in an effort to identify the woman and make sure she is OK.

Without more context, it's impossible to tell whether the footage captured a hoax, a person who was intoxicated or disoriented, or something more sinister.

It is still unclear why she was ringing doorbells but detectives are working to interview the woman, who they believe to be from the Dallas area, KHOU-TV reports.

But the peso has continued to drop and inflation has also been rampant, triggering a more desperate response from the government. The run on the peso prompted Argentina to turn to the International Monetary Fund for the $50bn credit line earlier this year.

Gizmodo reached out to an MCSO press liaison about the status of the investigation, and we'll update this post if we hear back. They are continuing to canvas the area and are reviewing video surveillance from other nearby houses and businesses.

Spencer said the woman could be a crime victim who was seeking help, but warned that she also could be involved in some kind of scheme, so he urged residents to exercise caution, according to KPRC. But when they came to the door, no one was there. It was one of multiple reports from the neighborhood of someone ringing doorbells and leaving early Friday morning. "It rang probably 20 to 30 times", an anonymous resident told Click2Houston.

"He walked outside no one was in sight", she continued.

From the day the video went viral, concerned people the world over were hooked to the hunt for the woman's identity and for clues to her story. "It's like she disappeared in thin air". She is partially dressed, wearing a T-shirt, without any trousers or shoes. "She is now outside Montgomery County and our investigators will be meeting with her to continue the investigation". "Unfortunately, times have changed from yesterday so you have to be very careful we have had a lot of home invasions". She is now with her family.
