Spurs suffer heavy defeat to Girona in final pre-season game

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that if the club does not strengthen before the season starts, it will be a hard campaign for them.

From a lack of transfer activity to being deprived of several senior members of his squad for their preseason tour of the United States, the Manchester United boss has spent a good chunk of the last few weeks telling anyone who'll listen that he's far from content with his team's preparations for the new campaign.

And while Mourinho is glad to see the back of pre-season, he did reserve some praise for how his youthful side handled itself against worldwide stars.

"The players were, once again, brilliant". They could not have done better than what they did.

Axel Tuanzebe, Demetri Mitchell, James Garner and Tahith Chong were the four players Mourinho picked out when discussing his squad and Mourinho was very impressed with that quartet as they had to deal with some world class players in the second half.

"At the same time is was [Robert] Lewandowski on Axel, [Arjen] Robben on Mitchell, [Leon] Goretzka on Garner and [Niklas] Sule on Chong. That's fantastic, it's absolutely fantastic".

"We were playing against their best team".

Manchester United will take on Leicester City in the Premier League curtain-raiser when they host the Foxes at Old Trafford on Friday night. The young Reds went closest to securing a victor in the first half through Joshua Bohui, who travelled with the first team on our U.S. tour, but came under pressure during the second period as the Toffees grew in confidence.
