The Mariners have carved a large lightning bolt into the grass at Gosford's Central Coast Stadium, engaged the services of a videographer to capture Bolt's time at the club, and several club officials, including CEO Shaun Mielekamp, rolled out the welcome mat at the airport.

Usain Bolt has arrived in Australia as he continues to chase him dream of becoming a professional footballer.

The eight-time Olympic sprint champion wore a Mariners scarf after landing in Sydney on Saturday following a 14-hour flight from Los Angeles. Central Coast Mariners supporters will be hoping that it is more than that, and that the swift Kingston native will help add firepower to a side that finished bottom of the 10-team league last season with a derisory count of 28 goals in 27 matches.

Bolt, who holds the world record for both 100m and 200m, has trained with a number of clubs since retiring from the track including Borussia Dortmund, Norwegian side Stromsgodset and Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

Jamaican Bolt, who retired from athletics at the world championships in London past year, has previously trained with Germany's Borussia Dortmund, South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and Norway's Stromsgodset in his bid to win a professional football contract.

Richarlison fee above market value, Everton director of football admits
The manager explained: "The only issue they have, and it is an important one, is that they didn't play one pre-season match".

"I love Australia, so I'm happy to call Australia home for now", said Bolt.

"I know what I'm capable of and I know what I can do, so this is the opportunity."
"I get the impression that he's been genuine about this and so has the club".

"It's out of the box and the more I've heard about it, the more I've come to embrace it".

It's understood Bolt will have his first training session with the club on Tuesday 21st August.
