Brad Pitt says he has given estranged wife Angelina Jolie $1.3 million (£1 million) and lent her another $8 million (£6.2 million) since their separation two years ago.

The Maleficent star's legal representative, Samantha Bley DeJean, filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, stating Jolie's intention to seek a court order forcing Pitt to cover a significant share of the costs of raising their six children, including retroactive payments.

The former couple has made headlines over the last few days as they've battled it out in pointed divorce filings.

"What has been filed by Brad's side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children", the statement read. Now, a source tells ET that Jolie "just wants the marriage to be over".

The update follows reports that Pitt's lawyers accused Jolie of "a thinly veiled effort to manipulate media coverage" after she accused him of being a deadbeat dad.

According to The Telegraph, the document also stated that Brad Pitt had failed to pay any "meaningful child support" after the couple separated two years back.

Jolie's attorney responded by saying that Pitt was charging Jolie interest on the loan for the new house and that the actress has had to shoulder most of the expenses for the children alone. Angelina will of course honor that loan.

As previously reported, Jolie filed court documents asking a judge to both finalise their divorce and force Pitt to pay child support for their six children, as well as retroactively pay for what he has allegedly missed as per an informal agreement.

A source went on to claim to UsWeekly that Jolie, who is now filming Maleficent 2 in London, had been forced to return to work making movies in order to cover the costs associated with raising her children. "Child support is not optional in California".

Another source added: 'Brad has completely lived up to his commitments as far as child support and will continue to do so'. "Everything had been private until she chose to file publicly yesterday, and that makes Brad hurt, angry and ready to fight back". We hope they can come with a conclusion that is best for their kids soon! See more on the pair's divorce in the video below.
