Furar said that the number of suspected cholera cases has now reached 139 in four states: Algiers, Tebessa, Blida and Bouïra, confirming that the tests showed 46 confirmed cholera cases and about 100 suspected cases.

Algerian Health Authorities announced on Sunday that there are more confirmed cases of cholera in northern provinces, according to official APS news agency.

In Algeria, Health Minister Mokhtar Hasbellaoui declared during a hospital visit on Sunday, 26th of August, that "the situation is completely under control", adding that "the outbreak would be eradicated within days". The government confirmed the recent cholera outbreak in the country while saying that the situation is under control of health authorities.

Most cholera cases were reported in the provinces of Blida, Bouira, Tipaza, Medea and Ain Defla, as well as in the capital.

All of the suspected cholera cases are now in isolation at different hospitals receiving medical treatment.

Morocco is not the only country in the region to mobilize its health ministry after Algeria has been affected by the disease.

Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated. Cholera is triggered by a bacterium transmitted via substandard meals or appealing water.

There are fears that the outbreak will affect more people due to poor sanitation conditions in the country.

The Ministry of Health issued a statement recommending that citizens follow hygiene measures, namely "washing their hands thoroughly, rinsing fruits and vegetables before consumption and refraining from visiting cholera patients in hospitals".
