Disney sinking $100M into 'Star Wars' streaming series

Disney's live-action Star Wars series could cost whopping $100M

Disney's live-action Star Wars series could cost whopping $100M

The streaming service is expected to launch in 2019, and while a price has not yet been announced, Disney said past year it would be "substantially cheaper" than a subscription with rival Netflix.

According to Making Star Wars, new speculation about Jon Favreau's upcoming Star Wars TV series suggests that it will be set on Mandalore three years after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi.

Presented only as an offhand comment rather than an official reveal, the Times reports the Star Wars series will run for 10 episodes, with an estimated budget for the series clocking in at a hefty $US100 million ($135 million), or pretty much $US10 million ($13.5 million) an episode.

Plot details remain under wraps.

"Star Wars is a big world, and Disney's new streaming service affords a wonderful opportunity to tell stories that stretch out over multiple chapters", Favreau said in an email to the Times regarding his upcoming show.

Samuel L. Jackson Will Be Back For SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME
From what we know so far the solution could come in the form of time travel, but we won't know much more until closer to the film. Avengers: Infinity War is now available on Digital platforms and lands on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

If you're a Netflix subscriber and you've regularly relied on Netflix as a means to eventually consume movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then I have some bad news for you...it won't be happening for much longer.

Considering that CBS All Access's Star Trek: Discovery was one of the most expensive shows in TV history with a budget of between $8 million and $8.5 million per episode then it becomes apparent just how much Disney is investing in both Favreau's show and its streaming service at large. Notably, this film line-up will include live-action versions of Disney classics like The Sword in the Stone and The Lady and the Tramp.

As most Star Wars fans already know, Favreau is no stranger to the Galaxy Far, Far Away. He voiced Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and also has a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Interestingly, Disney isn't limiting its new platform's original content to just shows.
