Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is stripped of the ball by Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil in the first quarter at Bank of America Stadium on Nov 11, 2012. Over the next seven seasons, Dumervil racked up 63.5 sacks, including a league-leading 17 in 2009. With 20 multi-sack games in Denver, Dumervil is tied with Ring of Famer Simon Fletcher for most career multi-sack games. However, Dumervil was never the same after suffering an Achilles injury in 2016.

The veteran pass rusher announced via Twitter on Thursday that he's retiring from the game at age 34.

"After spending a great deal of time talking to my family and prayerfully considering what is next in my career", Dumervil said, "I have made the hard decision to step away from the National Football League at this time". He was released by the Ravens in 2017, and spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers, where he had 6 ½ sacks. The 5-time Pro Bowler retires with his reputation intact, and playing for three different franchises over the course of a 12-year career, the bulk of which he spent with the Denver Broncos organization that drafted him.

Neil Young reportedly marries girlfriend Daryl Hannah
This year, Young (72) appeared in the Netflix film Paradox , a fantasy western musical directed by Hannah. The couple were criticized by friends, Young shared, including his former bandmate David Crosby.

"And to the fans, I've been blessed to play in front of some of the most diehard fans in all of the NFL".

Earlier this month Kyle Shanahan said he wouldn't "hesitate to reach out to" Dumervil if he thought the 49ers needed another pass rusher. "Thank you for bringing that loud support every single week". "I also have a wife and two young children who need me and a real estate business that I can now turn my attention to full time", relayed Dumervil in his Twitter post (above).
