Exhausted of legal threats, emulation hub EmuParadise drops its ROM library

Massively Popular ROM Site EmuParadise Effectively Shut Down After 18 Years

Last month, Nintendo filed lawsuits against two emulator sites, LoveRETRO and LoveROMs, citing their "substantial ill-gotten gains" and pursuing $150,000 for each Nintendo game hosted on the sites as well as up to $2 million for trademark infringement, not to mention the domain names and sources of their Nintendo ROMs. What you probably don't know is that we at EmuParadise have been dealing with similar issues for all 18 years of our existence.

Whether they were titles from the original Atari 2600, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or any other console, older games hold a special place in the hearts of many.

Fans of retro video games will no longer be able to download them from EmuParadise.

In a post titled "EmuParadise is Changing", the founder of EmuParadise announced that the website will not host retro games anymore, to not to "risk potentially disastrous consequences" from continuing the hosting. I can not in good conscience risk the futures of our team members who have contributed to the site through the years. But I believe it is the right thing for us at this point of time.

Everton and Manchester United Battling For Kurt Zouma, Talks Opened
Whilst that claim is bold, Zouma certainly has bags of potential and in many ways is an ideal Mourinho prototype. According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Everton have sent a loan offer to Chelsea for Zouma.

The site will continue to live on by doing "cool stuff around retro games", but it's not clear what that means - perhaps it will turn into a general retro gaming discussion platform, a marketplace, or something else entirely. But you won't be able to get your games from here for now. "We'd also love to hear from you in the comments about what you think we should do". It will continue to run, keeping the community it has created going and continuing to offer emulators for download.

"We have already made several plans of what is going to happen next", they continued. It appears that this has helped spark a new level of fear among such sites, as EmuParadise - one of the biggest ROM sites on the web - has made a decision to change its ways.

A blog post on EmuParadise's site shares details on the owners' viewpoints surrounding recent events, and how things need to change to avoid "potentially disastrous consequences". We've served the community for 18 glorious years and it's been a hell of a ride!
