Facebook Rolls Out Video Platform Watch Internationally

Facebook said Wednesday it is rolling out globally its Watch video service, which has already been available in the United States for more than a year.

Among other things, this announcement represents a major step up in Facebook's crusade against YouTube and in its attempt to capture some of the creators and video consumption that as of now flows to the better-known Google-owned video platform.

"Every month more than 50 million people in the USA come to watch videos for at least a minute on Watch, and total time spent watching video on Facebook Watch has increased by 14 times since the start of 2018", she told reporters.

Since launch, the company has attempted to make the experience social, making content easier to share with friends and creating shows with audience participation in mind.

The service also updated its advertising guidelines with its global launch, allowing more content creators to include ad breaks and earn revenue from their videos.

WestJet and Air Canada announce fee increases for checked luggage
JetBlue was a latecomer to checked bag fees, which became the norm in the airline industry in 2008. Those with bags over the limit (s) will be charged $150, a $50 increase from the previous fee.

Still, Facebook claims more than 50 million American users view at least a minute of video on Watch every month, with viewing rates increasing.

That is, before it ended up with a newcomer to the premium video content wars - Facebook Watch, which today announced a big milestone in its push to be a home for original video content like "Sorry for Your Loss". And that's not easy on a platform establishing itself, even if it is a Facebook platform.

This interactivity is what will set the Watch platform apart from the large array of streaming platforms available at the moment, according to Henick.

Additionally, the company is rolling out its Ad Breaks service, which is created to allow companies to monetize their content, in a number of markets.

Simo also explained that the global roll out has taken some time to launch as the company wanted to focus on making a single territory a success before worldwide launch.
