'Fortnite' will skip the Play Store for its Android release

Fortnite Mobile Won't Be Available on Google Play Store, EPIC Reveals Why

Fortnite Mobile Won't Be Available on Google Play Store, EPIC Reveals Why

Considering the iOS version of Fornite made over United States dollars $15 million since its release 3 weeks ago, there's a lot of cash to be made.

In brief, it could be up to four months before anyone who doesn't own a Samsung phone can play Fortnite for Android. Whether or not it can maintain its wrecking ball momentum has yet to be seen, but when it finally arrives on Android it will instantly be played by millions of people at the very least.

The fact is that Epic has a choice and it doesn't have to play Google's game (its iOS game on the other hand is only available through Apple's app store thanks to Apple's controlling approach).

Epic's FAQ on the matter is now hosted exclusively at Eurogamer, as written by Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, and the developer has apparently written its own questions to answer.

As expected, the main reason why Fortnite won't be distributed via the Play Store is financial. Inexperienced users, notably children, do not, opening them up to rogue installations of malware, spyware, and other generally undesirable stuff.

That information came from source code within Fortnite's website which revealed instructions prompting Android users to download Fortnite through their browser rather than the Play Store. Epic Games has its own launcher for games like Fortnite and Unreal Tournament, keeping a direct relationship with players and cutting out third-party services like Steam. This cut includes any in-app purchases, which is primarily how Fortnite makes money. You should look carefully at the source of software you're installing, and only install software from sources you trust.

Urban Meyer Placed on Leave While Allegations Investigated
"I'll have to fill you in on that later if I can", Whittingham said when asked about Meyer's situation following practice. A hearing to discuss the merits of her complaint was scheduled for Friday morning, but has been moved to September 14.

Avoiding the 30 percent "store tax" is a part of Epic's motivation.

However, regardless of the feeling if this decision, the reality is that Fortnite is coming to Android and that is something to be thankful for.

The reasoning behind this move is obvious, but so is the danger. Currently, several fake Fortnite APKs are online. This is a huge power-play that may or may not pay off in the end, but according to EPIC Games' Tim Sweeney, it will pay off big time.

That's sage advice, but it's advice that he's making it harder to follow. Instead of nabbing the battle royale title from the Google Play store like normal, Android users will need to manually download a file from Epic's official Fortnite website and install the game that way.

Fortnite, the most popular game on the planet, will soon be out for Android. Google recommends users stick with Google Play-downloaded apps because they've already done all the security checks users should go through before loading an app.
