France has banned the use of smartphones and smart devices in schools starting from the new school term in September.

France had already banned smartphone use during class time, but this latest ban extends to breaks and meal times.

French school students will now have to leave their smartphones at home or switched off as lawmakers have voted for its ban, promised by President Emmanuel Macron in his election campaign.

In fact, all types of Internet-connected devices, presumably including smartwatches and everything else, are prohibited on school premises.

The bans are also falling away in the USA -a survey earlier this year found that, while over 90% of public schools imposed them in 2009 through 2010, the proportion had dropped to 66% in 2015 through 2016.

She has spent a grand total of 322 days in space including a stint commanding the space station and performing seven spacewalks. I'll be ready, I can't wait", Williams said in an interview posted Friday on the International Space Station Facebook page.

The law was passed through Parliament on Monday, July 30, by 62 votes to one. However, the law lets the students use the mobile phones between the classes, but not during the class. Our main role is to protect children and adolescents.

Former teacher Alexis Corbière, a deputy from the left-wing Unbowed France party, said: 'In reality, the ban has already been made. There will be exceptions for students with disabilities, or if smartphones are needed for extracurricular activities. The Government is aiming to reduce the smartphone addiction of the students and they hope it will improve the efficiency and productivity of the students. Nearly nine in ten French teens between the ages of 12 to 17 own a smartphone.

The law requires that schools either prohibit smartphones or have students turn them off during the day.

It has been left up to secondary schools to decide individually whether or not they want to enforce this ban in their schools as well, either partially or totally.
