Get ready to shop! Wisconsin sales tax holiday about to begin

Tax Free Weekend Approaching For Back-To-School Shoppers

Tax Free Weekend Approaching For Back-To-School Shoppers

Wisconsin is joining several other states across the country in taking part in a sales tax holiday this year.

This holiday comes as a result of the state having an nearly 400 million dollar budget surplus.

Shoppers won't have to pay sales taxes on clothing, computers and school supplies Wednesday, August 1 through Sunday August 5.

This holiday does come with some strings attached. "Governor Walker and the Wisconsin State Legislature have determined that some of that surplus should be returned to taxpayers in the form of a sales tax holiday".

While there are many items available for purchase, there are restrictions on certain items in order for them to be exempt from the sales tax.

Matthews was thought to be a potential fill-in for Julian Edelman during his four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. Matthews was signed as a free agent in April and was looking to kickstart his career after an injury-shortened season in Buffalo.

Clothing items that are priced up to $75 will be tax exempt.

School supplies: $20 or less per item.

Helping out with back to school shopping is the focus of the holiday so of course back to school supplies will be tax free as long as the individual price on an item doesn't exceed $75.

"The biggest misnomer about it, it's not just back-to-school products, there's a whole list of products, baby products, shoes, clothing, they're all tax free", said Mettler.

Sports or recreational equipment include athletic shoes with cleats, mouth guards and baseball gloves.
