Google's privacy page says that users can turn off their location history at any time, with their info no longer stored after that. Neither explanation is something Google execs would want to be associated with.

Storing minute by minute travels includes Police have used privacy risks and the same for determining the location of the suspects.

A feature in Google apps such as Maps on Android or iPhone devices that lets users "pause" their Location History may still be logging users' moves.

Even with Location History off, the research found that opening its Maps app would store a snapshot of where you are, while automatic daily weather updates on Android phones would also store a rough location of the user.

Google's deceptive location tracking is made worse by the fact that the Location History language appears to tell a completely different story.

Google is morphing into the helicopter parent we'd always feared it would; its location tracking persists even when users have explicitly told it not to, discovers AP News. It does not stop Google's collection of other location markers.

At a time when people's hackles over privacy have reached an all-time high following the recently exposed Cambridge Analytica affair involving Facebook, the ramifications could be considerable when you consider 2bn people worldwide carry Android devices.

E-cigarettes can be key weapon in battle against smoking, insist MPs
They also pointed to links between some experts, the tobacco industry and firms that manufacture e-cigarettes. In the United States, at least 48 states and 2 territories have banned e-cigarette sales to minors.

Storing your minute-by-minute travels carries privacy risks and has been used by police to determine the location of suspects - such as a warrant that police in Raleigh, North Carolina, served on Google previous year to find devices near a murder scene. The app requires location access, which then jumpstarts a "timeline" of your movements. And if you go to Web and App Activity (which is on by default), the feature description doesn't mention location tracking either, which can lead you to believe that it has no bearing on location tracking at all. As it's a Google OS, you can't turn off Google Play Services. Even until Apple unveiled iOS 6 in 2012, the company relied on Google Maps.

Typically, Google is quite transparent with asking for permission when it comes to location information. Now go to Settings.

For all devices: Visit myactivity.google.com sign in using your Google account. Under Settings Safari Search Engine, you can find other options like Bing or DuckDuckGo. Only when you turn this off will Google's snooping ways be put to an end - turn off Location History alone and all the search engine giant will do is stop adding your movements to its "timeline".

Following these steps on respective systems will prevent Google to track and store your precise location and on your Google account.

Google's support page has instructions on how to manage or delete your location history. For example, how is Google Maps supposed to give you step-by-step directions if it doesn't know where you are?

If you want to turn off the location tracking feature, you can do so but you must remember that location-based services, including finding your device, will be disabled.
