Grujic signs new LFC deal and joins Hertha BSC on loan

A club statement reads: "Marko Grujic has signed a new contract with Liverpool and joined Hertha BSC on a season-long loan deal, subject to worldwide clearance".

Grujic had been wanted by Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Middlesbrough, Torino, CSKA Moscow and Lyon this summer, however the Reds remained stern to find the best solution for both club and player.

Serbia global Grujic enjoyed a productive loan spell with Cardiff City last term and will now spend the 2018-19 campaign in the Bundesliga, having first committed his long-term future to the Reds.

He will aim to take up a key role in Pal Dardai's midfield, before returning to compete for a regular first-team place under Jurgen Klopp.

The Serbian worldwide was also the subject of an offer from Italian side Torino, who wanted to bring the midfielder to the club on a loan deal with a view to signing the player permanently the following summer, which the Reds quickly rejected. He has seen limited first-team opportunities at Anfield so far, joining Cardiff City on loan for the second half of last season.

Their league opener comes at home to Nurnberg on August 25, where they will look to make their first step towards improving on last season's 10th-placed finish.

The Serbia worldwide, who has made eight appearances for Liverpool since joining them from Red Star Belgrade in 2016, was on loan at Cardiff last season.
