Indian human space mission to create 15000 jobs: ISRO chief

India will launch a manned mission into space by 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Wednesday in a speech marking Independence Day.

"The healthcare initiatives of the government will have a positive impact on 50 crore Indians", he said. Before 2013, institutions and economists across the world used to refer to India as a risky economy, but today the same institutions and individuals are saying with confidence that reforms have given India a new momentum and strong fundamentals. India is the sixth-largest economy in the world and Modi said global institutions see India as giving strength to the world economy for the next three decades.

The government's motto, he said, is "reform, perform and transform".

Reaffirming his mantra of "sabka saath, sabka vikas" (take everyone along, development for all), the prime minister said there would be no discrimination against any section and there would be no nepotism and favouritism. "There is record food production, highways and houses are being constructed rapidly, tractor sales and mobile manufacturing are rising, as is purchase of new aircraft, and new IITs, AIIMS and IIMs are coming up too", PM Modi said.

India has seen annual economic growth of about 7.0 per cent since he took over - though the rupee is now under attack in the fallout from the Turkey lira crisis.

The GSLV MK III is the most powerful rocket ever made in the country; it was first launched in June 2017 to deliver a massive 3,135 kg GSAT-19 satellite into orbit, to deliver internet access.

Mobile's latest Un-carrier move: overhauling customer service
Plus, the Un-carrier has launched asynchronous messaging for all T-Mobile customers in the T-Mobile App and iMessage. T-Mobile took the stage in Charleston, South Carolina on August 15 to host its latest Un-Carrier Next event.

Stepping up its rivalry with China, India has invested heavily in its space programme in the past decade.

Reiterating his government's commitment towards "sabka saath, sabka vikas" or inclusive development, Modi spoke about housing, power, clean cooking, water, connectivity, sanitation, skills, health and insurance for all. "India's voice is being heard effectively at the world stage and we are integral parts of forums whose doors were earlier closed for us".

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is also under pressure to pacify discontent in rural areas and check unrest among farmers amid opposition criticism that he failed to fulfill his electoral promise of creating jobs and boosting economy. The PM also said efforts to double the income of farmers would be further complimented with an agriculture export policy, which will allow Indian farm sector to take advantage of globalisation.

He said India will become the fourth country after Russian Federation, the United States and China to achieve the feat and its astronaut could be a man or a woman.

A vehicle landed on the moon a month later and sent back images of the lunar surface.

Active since the 1960s, India's space programme has launched scores of satellites for itself and other countries, including a satellite that now orbits Mars.
