Iran still abiding by nuclear deal terms: IAEA

UN: Iran continues to comply with terms of 2015 nuclear deal

The International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday said Iran was complying with the terms of the nuclear deal with major powers, reported AFP.

The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has been mired in uncertainty since May, when United States President Donald Trump announced his decision to pull out of the deal. It signaled no other breach of the accord's requirements by Tehran.

Trump suggested that economic pressure would bring Iran back to the table to negotiate a new nuclear deal, tweeting in August, "Iran, and it's economy, is going very bad, and fast!" A kilogram is 2.2 pounds.

Under the 2015 agreement, Iran can only enrich uranium to 3.67 percent far below the roughly 90-percent level needed for nuclear weapons. Mr. Trump also attacked the agreement for failing to address Iran's military aggression in Syria, Yemen and elsewhere.

In exchange, Tehran was granted widespread relief from worldwide trade, oil and banking sanctions.

Iran's economy has been battered by the return of United States sanctions following Trump's decision, undermining support for the deal within Iran. In response to the US withdrawal from the accord, Iranian officials have warned that the country could rapidly restart its nuclear program.

The European Union is now working to finalize an economic package aimed at keeping Iran in the deal. With current brazen USA officials-who have unsheathed their swords against Iranians-what negotiations can we have?

UNICEF prepares DR Congo school children for Ebola response
Last week, an Ebola case was confirmed in Oicha health zone which is hard to access due to conflict. Aid workers, priests and government officials are held hostage in the area, he said.

Meanwhile, the arrest of an Iranian diplomat and others over an alleged bomb plot in Paris in June has led France to re-examine some of its contacts with Tehran.

Also speaking on Thursday while attending meetings of European Union foreign and defence ministers in Vienna, the EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that despite disagreements with Iran over other issues, "we believe that addressing regional disagreements with Iran can be done in a more effective manner if we maintain the nuclear deal in place".

However, he said Iran "can't escape discussions and negotiations on three other big subjects which worry us", including its pursuit of ballistic missiles, the long-term future of its nuclear work and its "hegemonic" regional ambitions.

Sticking to the nuclear accord is not the only way forward for Iran, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday.

Trump, who had repeatedly promised to pull out from the pact during his campaign in the lead-up to the November 2016 U.S. presidential election, said at the time that the deal was "defective at its core" and did not do enough to curb alleged threats posed by Iran.

The Vienna-based United Nations nuclear watchdog has repeatedly confirmed Iran's compliance with the deal.
