Ivanka Steps Out of Line With POTUS Over Media and Family Separation

Ivanka Trump daughter and senior adviser of US President Donald Trump sat down for an interview with political website Axios on Thursday

President Donald Trump is downplaying his daughter's refusal to label the news media the "enemy of the people".

White House adviser, and U.S. President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, spoke out on the administration's highly criticized policy that separated migrant families crossing into the country. "Sarah Sanders was repeatedly given a chance to say the press is not the enemy and she wouldn't do it. Shameful".

She said she's been the subject of inaccurate reporting in the past so she understands why some people feel sensitive or targeted by the media.

Trump's combative approach toward the media has been emblematic of both his tenure in the White House and candidacy for president; in 2016, the Trump campaign routinely barred media outlets from covering rallies in retaliation against coverage of which they disapproved.

The joint appearance by Coats, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, national security advisor John Bolton, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray and National Security Agency Director Paul Nakasone comes as the administration faces criticism over its efforts to deal with election interference and continuing questions over how seriously President Trump takes the threat.

Ivanka Trump also agreed with Allen's suggestion that the separation of migrant families at the southern border was a "low point" for the White House.

It was First Lady Melania Trump who stepped up when President Trump's immigration policy was exposed for separating distraught children from their parents for extended periods of time. She called on Congress to find a "lasting solution" that is "consistent with our shared values".

However, Trump eventually caved to pressure and signed an executive order in June halting the separations.

During the same interview, Trump sought to explain why she had remained silent while Bee and others attacked her. "That's where my head is and that's where my heart is and that's why I'm here", she added.

"You know, Ivanka, that's a lovely photo of you and your child", Bee said, flashing the photo on the screen.

On high points for the administration, she cited the president commuting the sentence of Alice Johnson, a woman serving a life sentence for drug offences whose case had been championed by reality television star Kim Kardashian West. "To those critics, shy of turning my father into a liberal, I'd be a failure to them". "It reminds you of the real impact you have on people".
