Man Utd transfer news Bayern Munich Jerome Boateng

The 29-year-old has been touted as a potential candidate to improve Jose Mourinho's defence ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils only began his pursuit in the weekend in a bid to reinforce more to their back-line before the culmination of the transfer day deadline.

Boateng is said to have told Manchester United boss Mourinho of his intentions not to continue his illustrious career at Old Trafford after Bayern's recent friendly with United. The German centre-back has been the subject of transfer speculation this transfer window with clubs like Arsenal also interested in the player.

Boateng, still has the possibility to move to Paris Saint Germain.

Leicester have slapped an £80m price tag on the 25-year-old but United may be forced to overpay as they grow more desperate.

Willian has been the subject of numerous transfer rumors this summer after a so-so performance at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"I actually think Jose Mourinho hasn't helped himself in this pre-season with the way things have happened but I do think he gets a little bit too much criticism, even for the job he's done at Manchester United".

Despite being quick in making Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant sign on the dotted line earlier this summer, Mourinho's camp have been left frustrated in their pursuit of signing the likes of Harry Maguire, Mina and Jerome Boateng.

United are hoping to build on last season's second-placed finish and win their first league title since 2013.
