Liverpool 3-1 Torino: Reds end pre-season with victory at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp suffered his third defeat in a final with Liverpool

There's still one more pre-season fixture to get out of the way before the campaign starts in earnest, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is already looking past the meeting with Italian side Torino FC at Anfield tomorrow to their Premier League curtain raiser against West Ham United next Sunday and the German isn't exactly chuffed with what he's seeing.

Anfield gave Alisson a brilliant farewell, but the reception went up a level when Karius entered the fray. His squad looks deep, sharp and impressive five days ahead of a league season carrying high expectation.

Liverpool have ticked off almost every box this transfer window, and in pre-season striker Daniel Sturridge has looked like the player who once lit up the Premier League.

With Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan all carrying injuries Virgil van Dijk cruised through the first half alongside under-23 defender Nathaniel Philips. Nat Phillips, a 21-year-old from Bolton, filled the role against Torino and enjoyed an assured display against the team led by former Watford manager Walter Mazzarri.

It took them until the hour mark to make their next chance as Sturridge shot straight at Sirigu from a cute Xherdan Shaqiri pass, and Danny Ings was soon denied by a desperate clearance after bringing down a cross from the Swiss signing and squeezing a shot away.

One of NASCAR's longtime participants believes Brian France has been unfairly blamed for the downturn in NASCAR. France took over in 2003 as chief executive of the stock-car racing series founded by his grandfather.

The same three players were involved in the opener.

"He can still play as the eight or we could play some games with a double six, Fabinho could play the eight or whatever, that's all possible", Klopp stated as he hinted at a flexible formation for the 2018/19 season.

The Brazilian conceded his first goal in an Red jersey when Andrea Belotti pulled one back for Torino in the first half at Anfield.

Sturridge completed the scoring late on with a glancing header from Shaqiri's cross.

He was cheered when he became the tenth Liverpool player to be removed after 72 minutes while his replacement Karius - whose two howlers in May's Champions League final saw him receive hostile abuse on social media - will have felt better by getting encouraging support as he trotted on.
