Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow Evokes The Past With Future Tech

This time around, Mercedes-Benz said its new Vision EQ Silver Arrow concept features multiple layers of paintwork in alubeam silver, which appears as liquid metal over the top.

But while the 6 paid homage to the marque's grand pre-war tourers and cabriolets, the EQ Silver Arrow-revealed Friday evening at a Mercedes event at Pebble-is a tribute to Mercedes' most extreme ultra low-drag single-seat race auto, the historic W125. While its ancestor was powered by a compressor-driven 5.2-liter V-12, the wildest EQ creation to date boasts a bunch of electric motors good for an aggregate 550kW (737 hp). The Vision EQ Silver Arrow was inspired by the company's pre-war racers and made its debut at Monterey Car Week yesterday.

The exterior certainly isn't lacking in retro themes, but - unliked the pared-back cabin of the Prototype 10 - the interior is just as modern as the PB18 e-tron.

The concept's interior is adorned with high-quality materials such as leather, brushed aluminum and solid walnut, while a highly-futuristic digital cockpit complete with a curved panoramic screen that projects from behind and a touchscreen integrated into the steering wheel add a touch of modernity. Mercedes envisages a future world where roads have embedded charging strips running through them, with the transparent display guiding drivers along the most efficient line.

One awesome feature is the virtual race function.

Newcastle vs Chelsea, Premier League
Yet although Conte led Chelsea to the title in 2017 after switching to five at the back, Sarri will not be following suit. It showed against Arsenal, which poured forward in the first half and created a string of chances.

If Silver Arrow rings a bell, that's what Mercedes used to call its race cars from 1934 to 1939, as well as in 1954 and 1955. The system could be used to tutor drivers in better techniques on the track.

The driver can use the touchscreen on the steering wheel to select programs such as Comfort, Sport and Sport+, which offer different driving characteristics. We're not sure if this show auto actually has a working powertrain, but Mercedes-Benz says the EQ Silver Arrow is "conceived as an electric vehicle with an output of 738 hp", which is quite different than the W 125's gasoline engine - and more powerful. The Vision EQ Silver Arrow is a one-seater vehicle designed in the same general shape as its record breaking W 125 auto from 1937. Driver Rudolf Caracciola achieved an average of 268.9 miles per hour on the A5 autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, a record that was not broken until November 2017. Intended for acceleration and driving pleasure, it embodies progressive luxury and provides an insight into the future of our design. Another highlight is the partially free-standing multi-spoke wheels. The 168 spokes per wheel are made of lightweight aluminium and painted a rose gold colour, which is also a signature of the EQ brand.

The stylists found inspiration for the EQ Silver Arrow in the the W125 Rekordwagen of 1937. At the rear, meanwhile, the diffuser has two extendible rear spoilers. They act as air brakes creating wind resistance.

Mercedes-Benz takes design inspiration from its streamlined high-speed record-breakers of the 1930s for a contemporary electric-powered concept vehicle revealed at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance here.
