Moto Z3 debuts with fingerprint scanner on the side, 5G mod

No one I spoke to was willing to make definitive statements on how frequently Motorola would release new Mod accessories, but they did reaffirm the Lenovo subsidiary's devotion to the concept.

The Moto Z3 and 5G Moto Mod is being launched as an exclusive for US Telco Verizon where the phone will be priced at USD$480 (a shade over AUD$650). Of course, this 5G Moto Mod will only work in cities that have Verizon's 5G internet, which will be Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Houston later this year, as well as a yet-to-be-announced 4th market. The Z3 has an aluminium body with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass display just as the Z3 Play. The company has now launched the smartphone only for the US market. It is around 6.7mm thick. Moto Z3 is splash resistant. Moto Z3 cameras also come with Google Lens integration for object recognition.

The Moto Z3 comes weeks after the launch of Moto Z3 Play and it basically clubs modern design with decent, but outdated processor into a package that does not cost a lot of money. To offer 5G connectivity, Motorola has embedded Qualcomm's X50 modem within a module that's called the 5G Moto Mod. The storage memory is expandable by up to 2TB via a microSD card.

Coming to the cameras, there are 12MP dual cameras on the rear with f/1.7 aperture and an 8MP single selfie camera on the front with f/2.0 aperture. A dual-LED flash accompanies the rear camera. There is an 8-megapixel image sensor at the front for selfies with 1.12 micron pixels and 84-degree field of view. It also supports fast charging with its TurboPower technology, with Motorola stating it can charge for up to 8 hours of use in just 15 minutes. Moto Z3 comes with a water-repellent coating for splashes.

Software: The Moto Z3 runs on nearly stock Android. The Android One badging means the device will run stock Android version and will get updates for up to 2 years.

Inter Milan make contact with Luka Modrics agents over Real Madrid departure
Those snapped included Giuseppe Riso, Pedja Mijatovic and Modric's prime agent, Vlado Lemic all in front of a local hotel. If a deal doesn't materialise for Modric, Madrid will feel obligated to offer the midfielder an improved contract.

Motorola is positioning the Moto Z3 as the first 5G upgradeable phone, and that's fine.

Something to look forward to: Motorola's new 5G Moto Mod is compelling but the subscription aspect sounds a bit suspect. Alongside announcing the launch of the Moto Z3, the company has revealed that it has no plans to bring the anticipated Moto Z3 Force. The company has, however, said that the Moto Z3 can take water spills, splashes, or a little rain. But with the Moto Mod, it'll be capable of accessing Verizon's speedier network.

Thanks to the 18:9 display, Motorola has moved the fingerprint scanner to the right side. The Moto Z3 also packs face unlock support.

Motorola is back with a new smartphone. There's, however, no official word about it.
