NASCAR chief Brian France takes ‘indefinite leave’ after DUI & drug arrest

He spent last night in jail and has been charged with both DUI and criminal possession of a controlled substance "in the seventh degree" - whatever that means.

One of NASCAR's longtime participants believes Brian France has been unfairly blamed for the downturn in NASCAR.

NASCAR said in a statement that "Brian France has taken an indefinite leave of absence from NASCAR as chairman and chief executive officer".

NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France is taking an indefinite leave of absence after being arrested in the upmarket Hamptons region of NY on charges of drunken driving and criminal possession of oxycodone.

TMZ, the first to report news of the arrest, stated Brian France was pulled over at 7.30pm local time after running through a stop sign in Sag Harbor, New York.

According to police, he struggled to keep his balance during sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit for driving.

The 56-year-old France was released after his arraignment earlier this morning.

It was during that traffic stop when France was found in an "intoxicated condition" and also discovered with oxycodone pills on his person during a search, per SHPD.
