No deal most likely Brexit outcome for UK ZlotoNews — Liam Fox

Britain is more likely than not to leave the European Union without a deal on trade, the UK's worldwide trade minister warned on Sunday.

The government has been touting its plans for Brexit agreed at Chequers - the prime minister's country residence in Buckinghamshire - to the European Union and its leaders, including the French President Emanuel Macron, whom Theresa May met on Friday. The UK Parliament does not want no deal but it's certainly not going to be pushed around by the European Parliament.

"The fact is that we are ramping up our no deal preparations, as was planned, because there was always a possibility of no deal".

"No deal would be a catastrophic failure of government, which no government should survive", he said.

Mr Carney's comments came ahead of Mrs May meeting French President Emmanuel Macron at his summer retreat, Fort de Bregancon, on a small island off the French Mediterranean coast.

"The reality is that as we get close to the wire, the views of the member states will become more important". He put the chance of Britain crashing out without a deal at 60 percent.

"The clock is ticking, parliamentary time will be very tight", he said.

But her American opponent fought back strongly in the final set, taking three breaks of serve to clinch a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 victory. In the semifinals, the 2009 US Open champion will face third-seeded Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semifinals.

But the talks have stalled, and the British government is trying to heap pressure on the other 27 EU nations to compromise by stressing the economic harm to all sides that would come from a "no-deal" Brexit that imposes tariffs and other barriers on UK-EU trade. We left under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty, which says they have obligations to help us.

But shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer said Prime Minister Theresa May's "reckless red lines" had contributed to the difficulties, along with splits in the Tory ranks and "fantasy Brexiteer promises".

But unlike Mr Fox, Ms Patel does not back the Chequers deal, which has already led to a number of resignations from the government - including David Davis as Brexit secretary and Boris Johnson as foreign secretary.

Pro-EU Tories suggested that remaining in the single market was the best way to resolve the situation after the rejection of May's Chequers blueprint by Brussels.

Former Cabinet minister Nicky Morgan said keeping the United Kingdom in the single market as part of the European Economic Area (EEA) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was "clearly (the) right option", adding "will PM move that way or does Parliament have to force issue?" But economists say many companies are unprepared.

They suggested that the global trade secretary remarks on Sunday were part of a deliberate strategy to talk up the prospect of a no-deal Brexit in order to put European Union leaders under pressure to take the prime minister's Chequers plan seriously.
