The notice of Daura's sack was contained in a statement by the spokesman of the Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, on Tuesday.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has terminated the appointment of the Director General of DSS, Lawal Daura over invasion of the National Assembly earlier today.

This happened shortly after Acting President Yemi Osinbajo fired Lawal Daura, director-general of of the organisation.

Daura, who was summoned to the presidential villa by the acting president few minutes before his sack, was directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the DSS until further notice.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have left the national assembly after a siege which lasted over seven hours.

DSS operatives initially prevented senators, Reps, members of staff and journalists from accessing the complex.

The operatives, who began departing at 2.47pm, started leaving after the news of the sacking of their director-general got to them.

Saraki was also expected to meet with Mahmoud Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The blockade has been roundly condemned as anti-democratic and has made the leadership of the National Assembly to call off a scheduled meeting this afternoon, that would probably have paved way for the reconvening of the Assembly.
