Tom Brady, Quarterback, New England Patriots, and Founder of TB12, speaks at the Milken Institute 21st Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., April 30, 2018.

However, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Patriots and Brady are expected to agree to add "performance-based incentives" to his current contract that would put him in the realm of the annual salary of numerous top-paid quarterbacks. Matt Ryan now owns the highest average salary at $30 million, followed by Krik Cousins ($28 million), Jimmy Garoppolo ($27.5 million), Matthew Stafford ($27 million), Derek Carr and Drew Brees (both at $25 million). The Athletic and ESPN reported Brady expected his pending contract adjustment to be in place before Week 1 of the regular season.

With the 2018 season rapidly approaching, and with Tom Brady entering his age 41 season, the quarterback and the team are close to settling some changes to his contract.

Brady's current contract runs through the 2019 season, and Schefter's report did not indicate that current talks would include an extension.

Brady's current annual average value of $20.5m could be increased by more than $5m with incentives, ESPN's Adam Schefter said on Thursday.

The top five quarterbacks that have the highest guarantees in salary are all signed through at least the 2022 season.
