The 29-year-old scored 97 and 103 and saw India beat England by 203 runs in the third Test at Nottingham's Trent Bridge on Wednesday as they reduced the hosts' lead in a five-match series to 2-1.

But Buttler, whose 106 was his maiden Test century, and Stokes (62) then shared a stand of 169 - England's highest for the fifth wicket in the fourth innings of a Test.

India's slip catching was quite sharp during the third Test match and that was the difference between the two sides. "All in all it was the complete test match for us", said Kohli.

Root said: "Jonny is obviously a world-class batter in good form and would warrant his place within the side as a batter". England, however, lost their first wicket just five balls into Tuesday's play when fast bowler Sharma, testing the left-handed openers from round the wicket, got one to straighten away from the flat-footed Keaton Jennings (13), who was caught behind.

"In the second innings, the partnership between Buttler and Stokes was admirable and a lesson in how to play Test cricket".

"We have to look at that, adapt our own games individually and make sure that, when we turn up at Southampton, we give ourselves the best chance of getting scores of over 400, doing it in the first innings and trying to apply that scoreboard pressure that is so important in Test cricket".

England have a habit of responding well to home defeats and, following victories over India in the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord's, Root insisted: "We're definitely in the driving seat, we have to keep remembering that".

Iran says its economy not at "dead end" from U.S. sanctions
The US State Department on Thursday announced the creation of the IAG to execute the administration's Iran strategy and pressure the country to change its behaviour.

"We have got a little bit of time now to go away and reflect on what has been a hard week".

Another significant gainer for England in the batsmen's rankings is Adil Rashid, whose unbeaten 33 in the second innings has seen him gain eight slots to reach 116th position.

"We just need to keep moving forward, keep winning".

But when questions were asked about the 33-year-old Cook's place during England's 4-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia, he responded with an innings of 244 at Melbourne in December.

'He has a little fracture at the end of his finger, ' he told Test Match Special.

Heaping further praise on Kohli, Harbhajan said: "Virat's best quality is that he says we will play to win - whatever the situation we will play to win". He's a world-class performer - he's proven that time and time again.
