Roger Stone associate held in contempt in Russia probe

An associate of U.S. President Donald Trump's longtime adviser Roger Stone was found in contempt on Friday after refusing to appear as a witness before a grand jury convened as part of U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe, U.S. media reported. Mueller issued subpoenas in May to John Kakanis, a former driver for Stone, and Jason Sullivan, who did social media and administrative work for a political action committee run by Stone in July and August of 2016.

Andrew Miller's refusal to comply with the subpoena from Mueller's office prompted a sealed hearing before a federal judge, who then made the ruling, the Washington Post and CNN reported.

Mueller has been focusing in recent months on Stone, who has had a decades-long relationship with Trump. Despite this, prosecutors told the court Friday, Miller has still refused to show up. He said she has no knowledge of collusion with Russian Federation during the presidential campaign.

The Washington Post reports that U.S. District Chief Judge Beryl Howell ruled Miller in contempt of court after he repeatedly defied subpoenas to testify under oath.

Miller had previously challenged the subpoena ordering him to testify before the grand jury, arguing that Mueller's appointment as special counsel was unconstitutional.

Earlier in 2018, Stone associates also said Stone claimed to have been briefed by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about stolen emails the organization had obtained before they were released.
