Amid worldwide tensions, Russian Federation has launched a massive naval exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, which involves 25 ships and 30 aircraft, including Tu-160 strategic bombers.

Mr de Mistura said both the government and the rebels had the ability to make chlorine-based chemical weapons.

After more than seven years of fighting, more than 400,000 people are dead or missing, and more than half the population have been driven out of their homes.

"I am once again prepared. personally and physically to get involved myself.to ensure such a temporary corridor would be feasible and guaranteed for the people so that they can then return to their own places once this is over", he said at a presser in Geneva. De Mistura asked if it's necessary to create a "worst-case scenario" just to secure Syrian government access to the roads.

"It's very regrettable", he said. A source said on Wednesday that Russia's ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, was preparing a phased offensive there. The country has been consumed by war since demonstrations broke out against Assad in 2011.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov sounded the alarm during a press conference in the capital Moscow on Thursday, saying, "The situation in Syria has significant potential to get more complicated".

Al-Moallem said the government tried to negotiate with a so-called reconciliation committee in Idlib, but al-Qaida-linked militants arrested most of the committee members. Russian Federation often refers to any armed opponent of the Syrian government as a "terrorist".

The fighters must be defeated, Mr de Mistura said, but not at the expense of thousands of civilian lives. He also spoke of "warnings and counter-warnings" between the United States and Russian Federation, though he did not elaborate.

Iran's Khamenei says Europe cannot save nuclear deal, help economy
The hardliners in parliament criticized Rouhani's economic policy and rejected his explanation for recent struggles. Iran would never negotiate with "indecent and confrontational" USA officials on a new agreement, Khamenei said.

Sergey Lavrov reiterated the warning that a staged chemical weapons attack in Syria's Idlib province may trigger a US-led attack on the forces loyal to Damascus. The previous tripartite strike by the USA, the United Kingdom and France targeted what they called sites involved in chemical weapons research.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on August 29 repeated the UN's warning "about the growing risks of a humanitarian catastrophe in the event of a full-scale military operation" in Idlib.

"Why such a hurry, and not provide more time in order to allow more discussions, especially among the Astana guarantors?", de Mistura said, referring to Russia, Iran and Turkey.

"That area most likely is under government control, so that requires a constructive, effective government support and a United Nations presence", he said.

He said Thursday the evacuation proposal was "potentially possible", and that he could travel to the region himself to help monitor it.

De Mistura echoed that concern.

The Defense Ministry told Russian news agencies on Thursday that Russia will deploy 25 ships, including a missile cruiser, and 30 jets for the maneuvers in the first week of September.

Izvestia newspaper reported that Russian Federation now has at least 10 warships and two submarines in the Syrian waters, adding that this amounted to Moscow's biggest military presence there since it became involved in anti-terror operations in September 2015 upon a formal request from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
