Declan Donnelly will have a new co-host for the forthcoming series of I'm a Celebrity...

"If I was an agent and I had an exciting new presenter, I'd be quite anxious about putting them into the white heat of the spotlight of a big show on ITV frankly if you don't get above four million viewers it's not great".

The 42-year-old presenter has been receiving treatment for alcohol addiction following a drink-driving charge earlier this year which saw him banned from driving for 20 months and fined £86,000.

ITV chief Kevin Lygo announced the news at The Edinburgh International Television Festival in Scotland today, also telling audience members Ant is "doing well".

It marks the first time since the show began in 2002 that the duo will not front the reality show together from the Australian jungle. No, I don't know, it could be Jeremy Corbyn.

Other stars tipped for the position include Stephen Mulhern, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Yet, he admitted given all that has gone on between Trump and Sessions, it is time for Sessions to leave his post. Sessions was at the White House briefly on Thursday for a discussion on prison reform.

The duo's programme Saturday Night Takeaway will not air next year while McPartlin takes his break.

He went on: "The good news is that [Ant]'s doing really well, he's doing everything he should be doing to get better".

"We collectively thought let's give it a good enough time off because this thing (his recovery) is a slow procedure so that's what we've chose to do".

He added Ant & Dec were "professional and fastidious" about their shows and would not want to lower their standards by rushing back before McPartlin was ready.

While Dec said: "Whilst I am obviously sad at the thought of being without my best friend in Australia this year, I am proud of the work Ant has been doing privately and I am fully supportive of his decision".

Speculation has been running rife on Twitter with Love Island victor Dani Dyer, Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffat and So You Think You Can Dance presenter Cat Deeley all being suggested as worthy candidates for the role.
