The 31-year-old has scored 1479 runs at shade under 40 per innings in 25 Tests with three hundreds and nine half centuries but is now out of favour as far as longest format is concerned.

Apart from that Shastri also talked about skipper Virat Kohli getting in shape for the next Test after the latter suffered a stiff back at Lord's.

Kohli's knack of not sticking to a particular team combination is highlighted even more prominently considering the fact that not once has he fielded the same Playing XI in his tenure as India's full-time Test captain since 2015.

After failing to impress in the Test series in South Africa earlier this year, the 31-year-old wasn't included in the Indian Test squad for the first three Tests to take on England but remains optimistic of a recall to the side.

Kumar Sangakkara has given the struggling Indian batsmen benefit of the doubt, pointing out that it is unfair to call the team "overdependent" on its captain Virat Kohli.

"He is one of our pillars, he will remain one of our pillars", Shastri said.

'India have come to England complacently and arrogantly thinking they can bat the same way and everything will be OK on the day'.

When asked, Shastri refused to reveal any details about India's plans for the third Test.

India lost its 'anmol ratna': PM Modi on Atal Bihari Vajpayee's death
The veteran politician had been largely out of political life since 2009 when he suffered a major stroke. Aarti Vij adds. "We pray to the God to make him healthy soon and bless him with a long life", he said.

"It is not fair to single out any one player". Mental discipline will be the key as far as batsmen are concerned going forward in this Test match. "We are here without a negative bone, wanting to play to win, as simple as that".

Time for Rishabh Pant to make Test debut after Dinesh Karthik's failures? "You saw him in the nets, he is moving much better and improving by the day", said Ravi Shastri, the India coach.

Shastri also urged his team to believe in itself.

In 2016, the Pakistan team attended a military boot camp at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul before the England tour. You have been in this position a couple of times before and you have responded. "We're here, without a negative bone, wanting to play to win".

"Conditions favoured England but that's no excuse whatsoever.it can happen to any side".

"We focus on cricket". I am not saying that it is a bad thing but sometimes in Test cricket batsmen and bowlers need consistency in selection. If he has been cleared by the courts, what is the reason for him not to play? But it happened along the way, so I (want to) keep my options open.

"He is feeling much better".

"Conditions have been tough as we have seen right through this series". Neither spinner Kuldeep or R Ashwin took a wicket, and England leg-spinner Adil Rashid did not bowl. "Hardik Pandya played, but they could have played an extra batsman and an extra pacer instead if they wanted to". We did not how much it would rain. "But in hindsight, the way things panned out, the amount it rained, the amount of time we lost, a seamer could have been a better option".
