Storm Ernesto to unleash heavy rain this weekend

The storm is due to hit the United Kingdom this weekend and will nearly certainly bring heavy wind and showers.

Subtropical storm Ernesto is now tearing through the Atlantic and is expected to split the United Kingdom in two once it makes landfall in the early hours of August 19. The clouds increasing though from the west with some rain.

Lane is now forecast to become a hurricane on Friday and could become a major hurricane over the weekend.

The storm formed in the North Atlantic near the east coast of America on Tuesday (14 Aug) and has since been travelling across the ocean at around 40 miles per hour.

Bad weather is set to arrive in the country in the early hours of Sunday morning, but will only hit certain areas.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and western England are on track to take the cooler and rainy brunt of the storm, with south-east England set for 26C sunshine for most of the weekend.

Though there's to be sunshine over parts of Munster and Leinster during Saturday day time, Met Éireann has said that heavy rain "will develop later in the day along the Atlantic Seaboard and will become widespread early Saturday night".

However, the south of England is not now set to be impacted by the storm.

We can expect heavy downpours and lots of humidity.

"Maximum temperatures were forecast to reach 27C in the London area on Wednesday but just 20C on Thursday".

Friday in the south is set to be generally dry, although warm, humid and often rather cloudy.
