"The time has come to establish the Unites States Space Force", Pence said in a speech to USA military and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, citing threats from China and Russian Federation.

THE PLAN. According to Pence, the report includes the first four actions the administration will take to establish the Space Force.

In June, President Donald Trump called for the establishment of the sixth armed service, to join the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard.

The Space Force would be responsible for a range of crucial space-based USA military capabilities, which include everything from satellites enabling the Global Positioning System (GPS) to sensors that help track missile launches.

Pence said the initial request from Congress would be for 8 billion dollars over five years to be included in the defense spending budget for the fiscal year 2020.

Social media users have been quick to mock the idea of a new military branch.

Rep. Doug Lamborn has also championed the idea of creating a new military branch for space. It already contains a Space Command, which it established in 1982.

Defense Secretary James Mattis recently called Pence the "point man" on setting up the Space Force, and suggested establishing a separate space combatant command first.

A central defender has been the Portuguese manager's main priority with England and Leicester's Harry Maguire the main man linked. He would certainly add some real steel to the Old Trafford backline.

Responding to Thursday's outlining of plans for a Space Force, Democrats were withering about Mr Trump's ambitions.

The Pentagon sent a report to Congress on Tuesday detailing steps towards meeting Trump's order.

The Trump administration aims to have the Space Force up and running by 2020, Pence said.

The report to be released today represents a critical step toward establishing the Space Force, he said.

"What was once peaceful and uncontested is now crowded and adversarial", Pence said, adding that space had already become a "war fighting domain".

"Our nation's armed forces have always been the vanguard of advancing American leadership here on Earth and beyond", Pence said.

A Space Force, he added, "will meet the emerging threats on this new battlefield with American ingenuity and strength to defend our nation, protect our people and carry the cause of liberty and peace into the next great American frontier".

Meanwhile, others have argued that it makes sense to form a separate military branch specifically for space.

On Tuesday, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis called Pence "the point man" on issues pertaining to the U.S. military and space.
