Chilean authorities arrested the suspected prank caller who disrupted nine commercial flights on Thursday by alleging they were planted with bombs, Chile's Investigation Police (PDI) said on Friday.

Police are investigating the incidents.

According to Chilean law enforcement agencies, we are talking about the flights of the airlines LATAM Airlines and Sky Airline. "Right now the situation is under control", it said in a statement on Twitter.

Several airliners were forced to make emergency landings or turn back to their original airports in Chile and Peru. In two cases, the bomb threat was obviously a hoax, because the caller spoke about non-existent flights.

A LATAM Airlines flight carrying passengers from Peru's capital of Lima to Santiago, Chile, was safely evacuated after making an unscheduled landing in the southern Peruvian city of Pisco, officials said.
