'Very Unhealthy' air quality around the Inland Northwest

Spokane's air quality fell further Sunday morning and is sitting at 223 or in the "very unhealthy" range as of 1:25 p.m., according to the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency.

The alert is the result of smoke from Canadian wildfires drifting across the region.

The entire province of Manitoba is under somewhat hazy skies and Environment Canada has issued an air quality alert.

A shift in the wind pattern is expected to bring more dense smoke throughout western Manitoba which will continue into the southern parts later tonight. Some improvement is expected by Wednesday.

An air quality alert is also in place across Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Forecasters say smoke from fires in British Columbia is expected to drift into Washington and Idaho, causing unhealthy air levels through Tuesday.

- Continued smoke from Northern California wildfires, along with pollution from cars, has prompted the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to issue a Spare the Air alert for Sunday.
