Veteran UK Labour Party lawmaker quits, citing anti-Semitism scandal

Field said "a culture of intolerance, nastiness, and intimidation now reigns in too many parts of the party nationally and is sadly manifest within my own Constituency Labour Party (CLP) in Birkenhead".

"This is a serious loss to the party and I deeply regret Frank's decision", Watson said. It is a major wake up call.

In other sections of the interview previewed by The New Statesman, the former chief rabbi observed, "Now, within living memory of the Holocaust, and while Jews are being murdered elsewhere in Europe for being Jews, we have an antisemite as the leader of the Labour Party and her majesty's opposition".

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks has labeled UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn an antisemite who has backed "racists, terrorists and dealers of hate", in a fierce condemnation of the embattled politician.

Frank Field resigns from Labour party saying it is is now a "force for antisemitism".

Or as one senior Labour source put it: "Frank has been looking for an excuse to resign for some time".

The MP for Birkenhead, who has held the seat since 1979, said the party was now in the grip of a "culture of intolerance, nastiness and intimidation". "We can not afford to lose people of such weight and stature".

He said he also hopes to be in a position to seek the whip again as soon as possible.

Man claims to be gay lover of accused U.S. killer Chris Watts
A man claiming to be Christopher Watts' gay lover claimed that he and his wife Shannan were having marital troubles. Her obituary says she was born in New Jersey. "That's how I found out he was married", the man admitted.

In a letter, Mr Field said: 'I am resigning the whip for two principal reasons.

In separate letters to Labour's general secretary, the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), and the Community Security Trust (CST) argued party leaders have not sufficiently dealt with internal anti-Semitism, The Guardian reports.

'The latest example, from last week, comes after a series of attempts by Jeremy to deny the past statements and actions by him were antisemitic.

Mr Field said British soldiers fought in the Second World War to "banish these views" but that the Labour leadership was "doing nothing substantive" to address the "erosion of our core values". It saddens me to say that we are a racist party.

"Few events would give me greater pleasure than to apply to the Parliamentary Labour Party for the whip".

Field, who supports Brexit, had already faced a vote of no confidence from his local party in July.

But Sacks, who in his position as chief rabbi from 1991 to 2013 learned the ins and outs of political speech and how the leadership of his country works, warned starkly, "He has legitimized the public expression of hate, and where he leads, others will follow".
