Giants trade OL Brett Jones to Vikings for 7th-round pick

"He's going to practice when he's ready to go", Zimmer said Sunday. The Vikings, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur's former team, are in need of a center as their starter, Pat Elflein has yet to practice this summer due to ankle and shoulder injuries. But with the final preseason game just four days away, that's where Elflein remains as questions mount regarding his status.

Elflein is now on the PUP list, but Zimmer responded "No, I don't think so" if Elflein would start the season on the PUP list.

Three weeks into the preseason and those concerns seem to only be increasing as the Vikings inch closer to playing a meaningful game.

Elflein was a third-round draft pick out of Ohio State past year. Nick Easton took the spot when camp began, but he was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck and scheduled for season-ending surgery. Jones, 27, was acquired from the New York Giants. Since signing as a free agent by the Giants in 2015, he's played in 30 regular National Football League games, starting 12 times at center and twice at left guard.

Jones was actually pulled off the practice field on Sunday when the trade was made.

Jones, who was a celebrated CFL lineman, was signed by the Giants as a free agent in 2016.
