They remain hopeful of being able to host Manchester City in their new home on October 28, but can not confirm yet where that match will be played.

Spurs and Premier League officials have been in talks over how to resolve the problem. The switch would also mean Spurs playing four consecutive top-flight fixtures at home in April, which could cause logistical problems.

As a result, Tottenham may have to find a third "home" ground to host the match and will need permission from the Premier League to play a fixture there.

Talking about Spurs" stadium move in 2015, Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said: "They'd have to play in the same stadium for the entire year, for the integrity of the competition. That won't be allowed'.

Spurs have yet to confirm where they will play the home match against Manchester City on October 28, and will speak to UEFA before disclosing plans for Champions League group matches.

"At the start of the project we asked for your support during what we knew would be a complex and challenging build and now we ask for your continued patience and forbearance".

On Monday, Tottenham revealed problems with "critical safety systems" meant the new stadium would not be able to host Liverpool on Sep 15, Cardiff on Oct 6 or the National Football League clash between the Seattle Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders eight days later. We are reviewing the situation and planned timetable to rectify and re-test, after which we shall be in a better position to outline a revised timetable.

A safety licence must be granted before matches can be staged at the ground and that will not happen before test events - originally slated for 27 August and 1 September and now postponed - take place.

The redevelopment of White Hart Lane was scheduled to be completed in time for Spurs to host Liverpool on September 15.
