Vietnam says John McCain Helped 'Heal the Wounds of War'

President Donald Trump opted not to sign a proclamation honoring McCain.

McCain died Saturday from an aggressive form of brain cancer. McCain, were back at full-staff Monday morning.

McCain will be eulogized by President George W. Bush, who bested him to win the Republican nomination 2000, and President Obama, to whom McCain lost the 2008 presidential election.

He will lie in state at the Arizona state capitol on Wednesday, and a funeral will take place in Phoenix on Thursday.

According to a statement released by McCain's Senate Office on Monday, the senator's casket will be placed on a catafalque in the center of the Arizona State Capitol's rotunda.

Among those mourning John McCain is his 106-year-old mother, who says she is "incredibly proud" of what the late senator and Vietnam War hero accomplished in his life.

The absence of a formal communique from the White House has raised eyebrows and was all the more conspicuous after Vice President Mike Pence along with most of the cabinet, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, and all the living former presidents had issued their own statements over the weekend. When asked about Trump's response to McCain's death, Davis said that the family is choosing to focus on the outpouring of support from around the world instead of "what one person has done or said".

According to The Hollywood Reporter , Smith is in talks to join Star Wars: Episode IX , which is already in production. The news comes from Variety , citing unnamed sources, rather than Lucasfilm, so it's not an official announcement.

McCain denounced him for using language that "fired up the crazies", while Trump said McCain was a "dummy" who had barely managed to graduate from the US Naval Academy.

Trump has been criticized for feuding with McCain.

President Donald Trump was not expected to attend any of the services.

The White House had prepared a full statement, as is customary.

During the 2016 campaign, Mr. Trump mocked McCain's war service.

Among the pallbearers will be Democratic former vice president Joe Biden, ex-senator Russ Feingold, former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg and actor Warren Beatty. On Saturday, a procession will pass the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and arrive for a funeral at Washington National Cathedral. In the years since, Mr. McCain was Mr. Trump's loudest Republican critic, especially as the president disrupted America's long-time alliances.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy also called McCain a war hero who on his return home continued to live his life as humble and unassuming as even the most modest among us.
