White House lawyer McGahn isn't 'a John Dean type 'RAT

White House Counsel Don McGahn is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller and has met with investigators at least three times in nine months as the FBI investigates possible obstruction of justice on the part of President Donald Trump, the New York Times reported Saturday.

The report, published online Saturday, said McGahn was encouraged by the White House to discuss the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, Trump's desire to fire Mueller and his frustration with Attorney General Jeff Sessions over recusing himself from the Russian Federation probe as part of an "open book strategy" to get the special counsel to conclude the investigation.

President Donald Trump fired off several angry Tweets on Sunday aimed at discrediting a report that White House counsel Donald McGahn is cooperating with the Russian Federation investigation to protect himself, with Trump insisting that it is "just the opposite".

"In addition we readily gave over one million pages of documents", he added. Mr. Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani told CBS News' Major Garrett earlier this month that he's "more optimistic" that a potential interview between the president and Mueller might occur, putting the odds of that taking place at "50-50".

Mr. Trump repeated that there's been "no collusion and no obstruction" on his part, and instead blamed "crooked" Democrats including Hillary Clinton as well as former members of the intelligence community.

"I think there is good reason for McGahn to believe that Trump would throw him under the bus, since Trump throws nearly everyone under the bus", Dean told Slate. today.

"He could have raised several privileges".

Five minutes later, Aguero had his third - and his 31st league game in which he has scored multiple goals. I think the people are going to see how a football team lives behind the scenes.

Giuliani said McGahn's cooperation with Mueller was part of a legal strategy.

While Trump believes McGahn is not loyal enough, McGahn has called the president "King Kong" behind his back because of his temper tantrums, the Times is reporting.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to reporters upon his departure from the White House in Washington, U.S., August 17, 2018. He provided "detailed accounts about the episodes at the heart of the inquiry into whether President Trump obstructed justice", including providing information that the Mueller team otherwise would not have learned about, the Times reported, citing a dozen current and former White House officials and other individuals briefed on the matter.

Trump views the investigation headed by special counsel Robert Mueller as a stain on his presidency, and has repeatedly pushed for it to be ended.

McGahn and his lawyer, William Burck, have reportedly been doing as much as possible to cooperate with Mueller since previous year.

Giuliani told NBC News that if Trump had considered trying to remove Mueller that would not be criminal.

Sessions' move came hours after Trump said he had "total" confidence in Sessions, and shortly after then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer pre-recorded a Fox news Channel interview in which he said there was no reason for Sessions to step away. It's also unclear how aware the administration had been of the counsel's cooperation. "So, I think this is really a question of impression, not of anything that we have to worry about". Former national security advisor Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos have pleaded guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is on trial and the jury is deliberating in the case.
