Prior to President Trump's inauguration, the question "is the press the enemy of the people?" wouldn't even be asked in serious circles.

You read off a laundry list of your concerns about the press and then things that you feel were misreported but you did not say that the press is not the enemy of the people.

"For many reasons, none of them fair, Acosta has come to symbolize the idea of "the enemy of the people" to many Trump supporters", Rather said.

"That being said, I think we talk too much about it because I think that the common decency piece of this has less to do with the press and more to do with everything".

Sanders said it was ironic that media organizations complain about the president's rhetoric when theirs often is so vicious.

Sanders instead bashed news organisations' approach to various issues, including how she was treated by the comedian Michelle Wolf at this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner, saying the correspondents' association "brought a comedian up to attack my appearance".

Sanders said the media "continues to ratchet up the verbal assault against the president", noting that the administration has a "role to play" but the media is also responsible for the discourse in America.

White House press secretary Sanders was offered the opportunity by reporters to clarify whether the president really thinks journalists are the enemy of Americans.

Australian church abuse victims welcome archbishop's resignation
Wilson was convicted in May of failing to report allegations of child sexual abuse disclosed to him in the 1970s. Turnbull, the Australian prime minister, said Monday he was pleased Wilson had resigned, albeit belatedly.

Acosta had left the briefing before it ended, tweeting that he was "saddened" by his spar with Sanders.

President Trump and son Eric Trump retweeted videos of the accident on their personal feeds, sparking a debate on whether his apparent support for the heckling was appropriate. I addressed this question, I addressed my personal feelings. "But no, I do not feel that the media is the enemy of the people".

During an impromptu interview with reporters, Giuliani said that President Trump was just tweeting his opinions and that he hasn't fully researched if obstructing justice is a crime.

Acosta returned to the briefing room and went live on CNN, calling the demonization of the free press "un-American". "We should go out on Pennsylvania Avenue with these folks who go out and shout 'CNN sucks'". Therefore, in her mind, it's okay to call the news industry the enemy of the people.

"In the age of social media, where divisiveness serves no decent goal, these flippant comments on my part only made things worse and contributed to a cycle of rage that I should not have inflamed further".

At the same time, there is less room for journalists to make mistakes now that Trump has made them a central character in his own political story.
